Conversão de Terrenos Degradados pela Erosão em Regadio com Gota-a-Gota em Ribeira dos Bodes
Located 17 km from the city of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, Ribeira dos Bodes is a small community living from rainfed and irrigated agriculture, and animal husbandry. Land erosion and lack to water for agriculture have been the two most important challenges in the community.
The proposed project aims to: 1) Recuperate 2500 m² of land affected by erosion a and equip it with drip irrigation systems; and 2) Deploy 1500 trees of economic value in Ribeira Goat by September 2012. Beneficiaries are 8 low-income families, totaling about 68 people, including adults, teens and children.
Project duration is approximately 12 months, and the key activities are: recuperating land manually, construct anti-erosion terraces, and equip land with drip irrigation systems. The total project budget is $ 20,909 USD and the amount co-financed by the GEF-SGP is $ 19,000 USD

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The 8 parcels of land rehabilitated and equipped with drip irrigation systems will allow beneficiaries to have high yield crops and and less expenses on water. Therefore, this initiative will contribute significantly towards sustainable livelihoods of the Ribeira dos Bodes local rural area.
Policy Influence
The project contributes and influences the following national policies: The National Action Plan for the Environment (PANA II), the Action Programme to Combat Desertification, Action Plan for the Development of Agriculture, National Climate Change Adaptation Program, and Action Plan for Water Resources Integrated Management.
