Conservação de Solos e Introdução de Especies Endémicas
This project aims to support integrated sustainable management of natural resources in Canto Fajã, São Nicolau, specifically on Parque Natural de Monte Gordo, where land degradation and soil loss have been at the heart of most environmental problems.
All interventions proposed by the association of Canto de Fajã, will be located on the northeastern slopes and Monte Gordo Natural Park, which is fully exposed to the influence of trade winds and torrential rains. These actions will include forestation, using endemic species, and anti-erosion mechanical initiatives within the park boundaries. All of these activities, indicated on the park management plan, will be coordinated and will have collaboration of park management.

Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Impact
By being implemented in a Natural Park area, the project had a direct impact on the National Action Plan for the Environment and specifically on the Monte Gordo Natural Reserve management Plan
Project sustainability
The main objective to construct of anti erosion terraces is to prevent soil erosion. Nonetheless, farmers take opportunity to plan crops on designated terraces, which have enable them increase productivity without losing fertile soil. In some cases, specifically in this project fruit trees have been planted on these terraces. This reinforces the fight against erosion and while promoting sustainable community lives.
