The project aims to combat the menace of bush fires through a programme of sensitization targeting market lumos (weekly market days) in the Central River Region.The sensitization meetings with the target audiences will highlight the negative impacts of bush fires and attempt to bring about attitudinal changes among the general population.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
During the campaigs, the causes and negative consequences of bush fires on the environment and on livelihoods were highlighted. As there is a direct link between the two, it is hoped that the campaigns wouldl bring about attitudinal changes among the communities regarding bush fires which are a major environmental issue in rural Gambia.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The project placed a great deal of emphasis on increasing public understanding on the negative consequences of bush fires on the global environment and the link with their livelihoods.
