Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
- Organize meeting to vote the households participating in the project:
? Develop criterias.
? Organize community meetings to vote for the households participating in the project.
? The selected households enrolled and committed project implementation with the project steering committee.
? Organize meetings for households participating in plan in 2011.
- Organize 5-6 workshops on installation and operation technology for the technician (15-20 people). The main contents include:
? Technique on operation and installation, repair and maintenance of biogas technology equipment.
? Processing organic compost from biogas waste.
? The environmental problems in livestock operations and energy use and climate change.
? The benefits of biogas technology, understanding of the project, the money saving installation works, the payback period.
? Identify potential farmers in the commune to invest in construction of biogas, and provide contacts for construction of biogas.
- Advise to the management team to organize activities like seminars, conferences, and quarterly/ yearly plan and budget. The conferences and workshops were organized; plan and budget made by the management team were in details, scientific and practical.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
- Thach Ha was an agricultural district in the northern of Ha Tinh province, 5km far from the Ha Tinh city center.
- The total natural area was 35732.39 ha, in which there were 7,015.95 ha of forest land, 14,081.42 ha of agricultural land, 85,10.92 of non-agricultural land, 5166, 47 ha of unused land, 7/31 communes had forests.
- The biggest obstacle of this area was natural disasters and climate and weather adverse, which affected greatly to the overall economic development and agricultural and livestock production as well in particular. Consequences of natural disasters were to slow down the growth, which was one of the main causes of poverty.
- Thach Ha district had system relatively favorable transportation with the National Highway 1A going through the heart of the district and provinces. Total population was more than 143 thousand people, including 51 thousand people in working age, representing 36 %.
- Livestock was one of the traditional career of Thach Ha district. In recent years, with the overall growth of agricultural production, livestock production had continuously developed, contributing positively to the proportion of the district's economy.
