Incorporating the Knowledge and Resourve Values of Stakeholders in Marine Resource Management in the Grenadines.
This project is part of a larger project which aims to improve the management of a proposed trans-boundary marine management area between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada. The project will develop a zoning plan for the management area, develop capacity and increase stakeholder particiaption in its management. The overall goal of the project is to "engage Grenadine marine resource users in the development of an ecosystem-based, holistic multiple-use marine zoning plan to facilitate effective management of marine resources, reduce existing possible conflicts between multiple marine users and ensure ecological conectivity of MPAs in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development". The project has three objectves as follows: (i) to develop a draft multi-use zoning plan for the Grenadines that incorporates indigenous technical knowledge from marine resource uers in order to increase Grenada's and St. Vincent and the Grenadines' capacity to protect, manage and sustainably use the resources of the Grenadines by March 2012; (ii) to create a more enabling environment for participatory marine and coastal resource management and capacity building of Grenadine MRUs by March 2012; and (iii) to create opportunities for building resource management partnerships in the Grenadines amongst MRUs, business, legal authorities, and governments through co-management and associated livelihoods arrangements by March 2012.

Once complted, it is expected that the results will contribiute to the nomination of the site as the first trans-boundary marine World Heritage Site in the Eastern Caribbean.
