Enhancing the conservation of Critical RAMSAR Site in Nigeria. The Hadejia- Nguru Wetlands( Nguru Lake Marma Channel RAMSAR Site) North Eastern Nigeria
The project seeks to collaborate with local Communities to restore the water regime, maintain ecological integrity of the area and conduct the clearing of the invasive typha grass that have taken over farmlands, fishing areas and grazing range and to restore eco tourism potential of the area which has for years attracted great number of local, national and international tourists. The hinderance of free flow of the water within the complex has caused areas to be devoid of flood water which is resulting to serious drought and loss of resources like agricultural crops, pasture for livestock, natural vegetation cover etc. This has led to serious conflicts among various resource users
Project activities to be carried out are; Sensitization /Awareness raising, Capacity building workshop to stimulate local initiatives, Scoping to ascertain biodiversity, economic and tourism Potentials, Production of information materials / dissemination, Workshops/meetings on conflicts management, Community training (women) in skills acquisition, Biodiversity and economic survey for M&E, Preparation of sustainability plan and Lessons learnt/sustainability workshop. The groups involved are the Farmers and women of the community.
