Conservation of Medicinal and Economic Plants of Nupeland.
The project seeks to ensure the: establishment of a conservatory of medicinal and economic plants of Nupeland. establishment of a conservatory (botanical garden) containing all identified medicinal and economic flora of Nupeland (especially the endangered species). Establishment of a herbarium data base for reference and research in order Provide an updated documentation of our genetic resource (flora), Provide a resource base for research on the efficacy of the medicinal plants, stimulate Public-Private Partnership in management of community resource (Federal Polytechnic, Bida; Bida Forum and Traditional Medicine Practitioners? communities), Encourage sustainable management and conservation of natural resources, Promote public awareness on sustainable management conservation and sustainable use of natural resources through electronic media, traditional institutions & publications and provide capacity building for Traditional Medicine Practitioners? in propagation techniques.
There have been continuous and unsustainable exploitation of use of flora. This of the ever increasing population, urbanization and dependence of the populace on this natural resource as the main source of domestic fuel, strengthened by absence of alternatives like kerosene, cooking gas, coal, etc.
Project activities include; collection of flora, establishment of nursery, acquisition & fencing of land, bore hole, training on horticultural practiced, replication of conservatory, replication of conservatory and Public awareness. Men, women and youths of the community are involved in project activities.
