The main result of the project was successful implementation of solar water heating system SOLARICA in the school canteen at the M. M. Hodza High School where the daily water consumption is more than 1300 litres. Due to higher demands on water consumption than previously thought was not possible the full coverage with renewable sources of energy and therefore the electricity saved stood up at 5000 kWh per year. However, the school is undertaking further steps to full energy-sufficiency and achieve the initial goal of saving 10 000 kWh per year. The result has been not only saving the energy and thus fewer CO2 emissions but also increase of the environmental thinking of young people and their families who adopt more environmentally friendly practices.
During the project, approximately 100 hours of biology, ecology, physics and robotics classes were dedicated to gaining knowledge about the function and importance of solar energy systems. Families of the students were also involved in solving the tasks given to the pupils in the class.
