By using a sample of wood was found that Mytnica (old tax collection building) in Spisske Podhradie was build in 1240 and thus belongs to the cultural heritage of the Slovak nation. The reconstruction works of this nearly 800 years old monument were performed by members of socially disadvantaged groups, predominantly the Roma minority, who under the supervision of professionals repaired the heating boiler, chimney, window insulation, removed cement plaster, plastered and painted the walls and repaired wooden ceiling. As a result, local long-term unemployed gained useful building skills and arranged contacts that can later on help them in finding work. By repairing the old Mytnica local people created their own vibrant multi-purpose centre for various art and craft activities for the members of local community, but also visitors from other regions of Slovakia and from abroad.
