Rehabilitating Community Forest for Life and Environment / Li Watershed Community Forest Network
Implementing NGO/CBO:
Li Watershed Community Forest Network (LINET): Established as a result of community leaders? experience sharing on management of natural resources and the environment on 16 February 2010, under facilitation of the responsible local administrative organization. Formation of the network would lessen burdens of the leaders and ensure a more holistic management.
Location of project: Watershed area of Li River in Tambol Takhienpom of Lamphoon Province?s Thung Hua Chang District. Mostly forest and mountainous terrain, there are tracts of flat land that are suitable for cultivation, nevertheless. Deforestation due to back forest concession, in conjunction with current less well planned land use are imposing threats to the watershed which is an integrated ecosystems of the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Target Population: 2,099 families with 6,856 members are direct participants/beneficiaries of the project. Mainly of three cultural groups (Tai, Yong and Karens ), growing paddies, cash crops and other horticulture are the first source for living, with providing general services considered the second.
Main Activities:
1. Launching capacity building by meetings, summarizing lessons learnt and community inventorying 2.Demonstrating conservation approaches by re-vegetation, forest surveillance, fire-break zone and retaining soil humidity
3. Conducting participatory evaluation
4. Disseminating project results to wider public
Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increased capacity & awareness of at least 1,679 families witnessed by active participation in activities and management
2. Emergence of a clearer data & information of communities and ecosystems and of clearer action plans
3. At least 960-ha being reforested and under protection
4. Cultivated plots of at least 1,500 families being reforested
5. Evinced increased provision capacity of community forests in 12 communities (by 30 %) , with reduction in forest fire and timber failing ( by 70 %)
