Promoting and Developing Community Food Resources for Self-reliance / Farmers’ Community Institute.
Implementing NGO/CBO:
Farmers? Community Institute (FCI): An NGO founded in November 2006 to offer alternative education focusing on developing learning process for youth in rural area. With persistent learning process, individuals would be able to know more about oneself and thus suitable principles for harmonious living.

Location of project:
10 villages in Tambol Nongsaeng, Wapi Pathum District, Mahasarakharm Province 80 % of which constitute a cultivated land with marginal forests and water courses. The location is situated in the Chi River Basin- an integrated portion of the Lower Mekong Basin.

Target Population:
30 out of 1,200 families in project location who practice paddy farming are direct participants/beneficiaries. These 30 families are selected from 10 villages. The per capita income is THB: 28,000.

Main Activities:
1. Capacity building through development of paradigm among targeted population
2. Promoting the development of food resources base in marginal forest, paddy fields and community gardens
3. launching knowledge management from project activities
4. Disseminating project results to wider audiences

Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increased capacity of at least 30 farmers with increased insight on sustainable agriculture - persistently conducting participatory process at least once two months
2. Systematical management of the followings:
- at least 160 ha of marginal forest land
-at least 160 ha of water resources
3. Emergence of at least 30 gardens with about 5 acres under re-vegetation
4. At least 30 plots being developed into self-reliant agricultural plots with at least 10 as models
5. Compilation of project knowledge and experience
6. Emergence of parties to draft strategy for community food security consistent with local ecosystems.
