Project Characteristics and Results

Replication of project activities

- Documentation of project activities through videos illustrating phases of project?s implementation to help spreading the idea to other communities.

Project sustainability

- The participation of various segments of community members (men - women - youth - children) to use bicycles helps promoting the idea among the community, especially that they use them within and outside the villages of Tahta - Building the capacity of the NGO and the project team will ensure the sustainability of the project. - The system of revolving ? funds ensures the continuity and sustainability of the project, as well as increasing the number of beneficiaries.

Gender Focus

-Women in rural Egypt is a key partner of men, though the project, the NGO focused on the empowerment of women and the positive role she can play to participate and promote the idea. -Ensures the participation of women in awareness raising activities within the various activities of the project.

Policy Influence

The NGO lead the discussions with Sohag?s Governor to determine a single lane in all streets of the targeted villages for bicycles only, which will increase the number of bicycles and have a great impact on decreasing air pollution.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Thourg the awarness raising activities and the workshops organized to promote the sustainable mean of transportation, the NGO raise the awareness of the local community on the climate change problem on the national and global level.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Using bicycles in such poor villages has a positive impact on environmental, economic, social and health conditions.It improves the livelihoods of the local community and also enables the students to continue thier education after providing with a cheap and safe mean of transportation.

Project Results

-Organize (4) seminars and workshops to focus on the dangers of greenhouse gas emissions caused by transport and the importance of the bicycle, as a safe, healthy, environmental-friendly and economic mean of transportation..
- The distribution of (400) bicycles in the poor villages of Tahtaha, Sohag Governorate.
- The exchange of visits between NGOs to ensure the exchange of knowledge and experience.
- The involvement of local leaders to support widening the idea of using bicycles as an environmental friendly, sustainable transport.
- Print awareness materials such as brochures, posters, etc? regarding project?s objectives & activities and raising people?s awareness on the importance of sustainable transport and the issue of climate change.
