GOAL
Conserving endemic plants by applying integrated and participatory manner in villages along Kedungombo Dam

OBJECTIVES (TUJUAN KHUSUS PROYEK)
Objective 1 : Implementation of integrated community-based forest management
Indicators : 1. Existing 0.5 hectares of teak and acacia seed bank with 175,000 seeds planted.
2. Existing sustainable seed procurement method for granting seeds to group of 400 farmers
3. Existing teak and acacia cultivation trainings twice a year for each village (8 times for 4 villages)
4. Existing garut (arrowroot/Marantha arundinacea) seed bank of 4 hectares with 12 tons seeds planted
5. Existing 400 farmers from 4 villages to manage longevity forest.
6. Existing learning modules for fields school packages for developing arrowroot plant and recording and documenting its entire process
Activities : 1. Developing 0.5 hectares of teak and acacia seed bank for reforestation and developing training site for sustainable seed production. The site will be managed by group and later sold to both members and other parties with agreed price.
2. Conducting training for teak and acacia cultivation twice/year/village for 80 farmers in 4 villages. The trainers will be farmers and forestry officer and it aim to increase skills on cultivation and conservation of teak and acacia plantations.
3. Developing 4 hectares of arrowroot plant seed bank to support the reforestation by planting second layer of plants under the teak and acacia plantations.
4. Conducting training for arrowroot cultivation twice/year/village for 80 farmers in 4 villages. The trainers will be farmers and forestry officer and it aim to increase skills on cultivation and conservation of arrowroot plantations.
5. Providing assistance for 12 field school for 1 planting season/village (24 times in 2 years/village for 80 farmers in 4 villages). The trainers will be farmers and forestry officer and it aim to increase farmers? skills in arrowroot cultivation and to identify its function from economic, ecology, and social aspects.

Objective 2 : The local rice species on rain-fed rice field are intensively developed
Indicators : 1. Group of farmers have the ability of cultivating local rice species intensively and increasing the production of Slegreng and white rice from 4 tons/hectares into 5 tons/hectares; black rice from 2 tons into 2.5 tons/hectares, and 3 tons of white rice into 4 tons of Dry Grain Harvest (Gabah Kering Panen)
2. Groups of farmer have the ability to develop seed bank for local rice species to meet the needs of its member.
3. Groups of farmers have the ability to develop organic fertilizers and pesticides for self-sufficient farming thus reducing the cost of ? 30 %
4. Existing revolving fund scheme management system by procuring goats where its functions can be used together by community as organic fertilizer
Activities : 1. Conducting 28 times field school seed group for 80 farmers in 4 villages to increase the skill in developing local seeds to be disbursed to farmers? network. This field school is also expected to increase their knowledge in identifying the potentials of local rice species.
2. Conducting field school to increase farmers? skills in cultivating local rice plants and in analyzing profitable farming business. It should not only focus in increasing production but also considering the economic, social, and environment aspects.
3. Conducting training in producing organic pesticide and fertilizer training to increase farmers? skills and capacity. The raw materials to be used are obtained from the goat procurement through revolving fund scheme.

Objective 3 : The community-based business in cultivating arrowroot plant and local rice are developed and the market is organized.
Indicators : 1. Group organization is well-functioned, measured by the availability of regular meetings, good administration and financial reports, program planning, capacity for program management, and joint evaluation.
2. The groups are able to implement arrowroot and local rice species post-harvest process to produce processed goods with high economical values and able to identify its market. Besides, the groups are also able to manage the post-harvest of the local rice species (slegreng, ketan hitam, ketan putih) in general.
3. Existing marketing system between the groups to organize the market and increase selling price ? Rp. 200/kg
Activities : 1. Implementing administration management training for farmers to increase their management capacity for administration, documentation, and financial reporting.
2. Implementing training on arrowroot food processing to increase the skill in producing arrowroot flour, chips, bread, and other processed products.
3. Implementing training on food processing from brown rice and black rice into various cakes and pastry
4. Implementing entrepreneur training for members to increase the entrepreneurship skills for trading.
5. Implementing marketing training for members to expand their market network for various farming products.
6. Holding exhibition for processed product to introduce the local products. The exhibition will be collaborated Cooperative Office (DIPERIDAKOP) of Boyolali District and Bina Bakat Surakarta Cooperative that regularly held monthly agricultural products exhibition in Surakarta
7. Facilitating meetings between private sector and farmer group to market their products and to find potential investors for future supports

EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. The farmer groups are able to well-manage longevity forest in sustainable manner. The community-based forest management will be synergized with second layer of plants such as arrowroot and other productive plants among the teak and acacia plantations.
2. The farmer groups have the ability to develop seed bank of local rice species and intensively cultivate them by implementing integrated and organic farming system.
3. The farmer groups have the ability to implement post-harvest arrowroot and local rice species processing into higher value processed products and able to identify and organize its market
