Marine Turtle Conservation
This project was developed taking into account the need to protect and conserve marine turtles and its habitats in Boavista Island, Cape Verde. Local communities will be involved through awareness workshops, nesting beach patrols, and training as tour guides in order to stimulate other sources of income to the community through eco-tourism.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
An exchange visit programme was delineated and implemented during the project. Povoação Velha fishermen visited the first marine turtle camp of Cape Verde, in Ervatão Boavista. Participants exchanged experiences with locals involved and international volunteers international in Ervatão. They also exchanged experiences with Cruzinha local community in Santo Antão Island, an innovative marine turtle conservation approach in Cape Verde (Equator Prize Winner)
Notable Community Participation
Povoação Velha local community, including its fishermen participated in nesting beach patrols (3km of beach), as well in all awareness activities held locally.
