54 families of Kudumiriya village are provided with electricity from few micro-hydro and pico-hydro projects. All hydro-power plants run from the water stream originated from two state owned forest called Kudumiriya Forest Reserve and Yakgahakanda Forest Reserve. Both forests reserves are connected to Sinharaja World Heritage Forest. Their biodiversity values and hydrological functions of these two forests are extremely important. The forests that are subjected to encroachments are being poorly protected due to their location in remote areas. Proposes demarcation of forest boundaries, soil conservation practices, watershed conservation through planting trees, and awareness creation.
