Mauke Water Catchment Preservation Project
Mauke Water Catchment Preservation Project
The main problem to be adressed by this project is the potential over-harvesting of ground water potentially affecting the sustainability of supply and quality of water, and in the long term affecting environmentally sensitive areas that are important to the livelihood of the people of the island.
The issue of sustainability of supply, which is the main focus of this project, can be addressed by rainwater-harvesting which involves harvesting of rainwater that will, in rainy days reduce or stop the household from using water from the reticulation system. It is the intention of the Island Council members to carry out a capacity building house to house water conservation inspection programme.
