The Improvement of Woman Group Capacity Through The Development of Non-Timber Forest Product-based Livelihood to Promote Utilization of Peatland Resource
GOAL
To increase capacity of Women Group of Artisan through livelihood development based on Non Timber Forest Product in order to encourage the ecological use of peat swamp resources based on community local wisdom.

OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Increase women awareness to work together in groups and to build a joint force to manage NTFP in sustainable manner in order to increase family income
Indicators : 1. The awareness, motivation, and enthusiasm of women groups in management efforts of Non Timber Forest Product (NTFP) business in sustainable manner in each respective region are instilled.
2. The formation of three artisan groups of pandanus mats in each village with at least 20 people per group
3. The establishment of joint savings and loan business units managed by women groups and at least 100 artisans can access capital to produce a marketable product
Activities : 1. Capacity Building of women groups to manage NTFP in a sustainable manner (especially the pandanus mats) and coconut shell waste.
2. Strengthening the women group organization by regular meetings, discussions, FGDs, training approaches and mentoring efforts
3. Managing the unit of UBSP (Saving and Loan Joint Business) for each group in three villages

Objective 2 : To improve the skills and capacity of weaving group artisans to produce qualified products and suitable to market demands through organizing programs, skills training, business management of NTFP in a sustainable manner.
Indicators : 1. The increment of community skill and capacity through organizing programs and skills training, business management of NTFP in sustainable manner.
2. The increment of community income, through the development of productive business in managing NTFP in sustainable manner.
3. There are at least three types of products produced by groups of artisan ready to be marketed in the local market
Activities : 1. Facilitating training activities to targeted community so they are willing to join the group of artisans.
2. Carrying out training on NTFP utilization such as mat made by pandanus and coconut shell charcoal. The training is conducted in three villages by bringing trainers from YDT. A joint training is conducted in one of the villages and is expected to be followed by at least 50% of group members.
3. Carrying out survey of local and national markets for such products.
4. Opening up the market through promotions, exhibitions, and partnerships involving women groups. Promotions are planned to be made in form of brochures. This form of promotion will be distributed to partners and consumers who like unique local product. The exhibition will be conducted at local scales in Ketapang and Pontianak as much as ± 2 times a year.
Objective 3 : To carry out series of training activities and FGD related to the attempt of protecting the protected peat swamp forests
Indicators : 1. Joint discussions at the monthly regular meetings related to global warming issues, the prevention of forest fires and land are carried out
2. Training for the management of the organic vegetable garden is facilitated
3. A pilot of organic vegetable garden and local rubber plant seedlings with cucumber, sour eggplant, cassava, etc. is present.
Activities : 1. Monthly regular discussions in every group meetings.
2. Training to make charcoal compost
3. Management of organic vegetable gardens that have been started by the community and making a pilot of joint garden.

Participants and/or Project Beneficiaries
Direct : Group of women pandanus artisans and their families living around the Sentap Kancang protected peat swamp forests that consists of 100 people
Indirect : Communities outside the target area that has access, needs and major influence on the social dynamics, economic and ecological of direct target communities, which amounts to ± 2144 head of households
