Conservation of Otis tarda in Altintas Valley, Kütahya
The project aims to raise awareness and conduct trainings to the farmers to facilitate the conservation of critically endangered bird species, Otis tarda, the Great Bustard, which lives and breeds in farmlands in steppe ecosystem, thereby susceptible to pollutants, particularly pesticides and herbicides used by the farmers during their harvesting. The bird, as being a relatively large creature, although not easy to spot in its natural environment, when flying, is an easy target for hunters and a good trophy. The project will also focus on hunter trainings, as well as training the local enforcement agencies towards the control of illegal hunting and the importance of the species.
