Conservation Area Management of Mt. Merbabu Critical Land
Ecological Threat :
Mount Merbabu is one of the areas of the plateau in Central Java that has experienced much environmental damage. Previously, The Mount Merbabu was known as the habitat for Javanese tiger, Javanese eagle, monkey, and various other tropical forest wild animals. Currently, severe environmental destruction happened in Mount Merbabu. The loss of forest coverage around the peak of Merbabu had directly an impact on the loss of many water springs, the occurrence of drought, weather changing that did not support agriculture, decreasing land fertility, the availability of firewood, the monkey that attacked the agricultural land and moreover, the pest attacking the crop including the agricultural crop.
Project Development Goal:
Program Planning To :
1. Provide technical assistance to farmer in cattle breeding management and technology;

4. Provide plant importance in preventing land erosion and revitalize soil nutrient cycle;
5. Provide fruit plant for community frontyard to extend green area in community village as well as improving community welfare;
6. Improve farmer knowledge in environmentally-friendly agricultural technology;
7. Prevent flood in the farming area or village;
8. Establish forest with complete vegetation species and to provide community with firewood and housing material;
9. Conduct planting activity in productive zone with plant species useful for animal feed
Expected Outputs:
1. Existed potentials animal breeding activity that can be developed;
2. Existed revolving fund for animal breeding activitu;
3. Existed agricultural technology to conserve ecosytem and improve land fertility;
4. Existed dam and catchments well to keep rain water that can be used in irrigation system;
5. Existed forest with complete vegetation species which can also provide community firewood and housing materials.
Activities to be Conducted:
1. Community planning on developing of breeding technology;
2. Community planning on the establishment of biogas digester;
3. Community planning on fruit planting;
4. Community planning on the development of Dam and Catchment Well;
5. Community planning on rehabilitation of pine monoculture with local variety hard plant;
6. Community planning on annual crop to support breeding activity.
