Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
Agro-forestry is a promising option for the rehabilitation of the ecologically degraded project area. Although annual crops provide food and economic benefits, the same attracts many wild animals such as monkeys, wild boar, porcupines and barking deer. Crop damage by those wild animals is a critical issue. Fences have been built to avoid terrestrial animals entering into the lands but sustainability of the project depends on the ability to control monkeys entering the lands via tree tops. Converting lands to grow fruits and timber would be a good option for the sustainability of the project. Ecotourism industry has to be developed further to be a profitable industry that would provide an additional income for the villagers.
Notable Community Participation
All activities are being carried out with the participation of the local communities and also they are the beneficiaries of the project. They also get involved with the monitoring and evaluation process
