Pilot Project on Synthetical Energy Conservation for Old Buildings in Northern Cities
Pilot Project on Synthetical Energy Conservation for Old Buildings in Northern Cities
Targeted Location and Population:

The project site is located in Chaoyang District, Beijing with concentrated old buildings.
The target groups are 45 households living in old buildings, which were built between 1970s and 1990s.Most of the inhabitants are local cultural-workers and white-collars with middle-level income in Beijing.

Problems:
The total area of old buildings in Beijiing is 4030 square meters, accounting for 15% of total buildings in Beijing. The electrical energy efficiency of the old buildings is much lower than the new ones as they are lack of design and measures on energy conservation and emission reduction. According to our studies, the project will raise the electrical energy efficiency by 25% per household and demonstrate to other old buildings with same problem.

Solutions/ planned activities:
1.Information dissemination : topic website; lectures; blackboard newspaper; brochure; symposium; stakeholder meeting.

2.Install solar photovoltaic panels for the selected old building.

3. Install solar hot water system for selected households.

4. Conduct roof greening for improve energy efficiency of old building.

5. Work with media to publicize project results and raise public awarness on buidling energy saving and energy efficiency.

Anticipated results/ immediate outputs of this project:

1. One energy-saving building demonstration is establihsed.

2. about 7 square meters solar photovoltaic panels is installed on the demonatration building, 300 square meters roof greening is completed, solar hot water system is installed for 15 households, which can totally reduce electric power by 7500 kWh and carbon dioxide emissions by 5900 Kg every year.

3. Media and public's awareness on building energy-saving and energy efficiency is raised.
