Technical Assistance on Customary Forest Working Group and Bee Hives Pilot Project in Baru Pangkalan Jambu Village, Pangkalan Jambu Sub-district, Merangin District, Jambi
Ecological Threat :
In 1993, Kerinci Seblat National Park Office handed over 754 of its forest area to Baru Pangkalan Jambu customary village, Pangkalan Jambu Subdistrict. The hand over was approved by Mayor of Merangin District, through Mayor Decree No. 225/1993. According to the first agreement, the 754 ha of forest area will be managed based on customary rule by Kelompok Kerja Pengelola Hutan Adat (Customary Forest Management Working Group). Currently, the customary forest is facing serious threat such as illegal logging by village community as well as neighboring village, and also from the expansion of community agricultural land. Other threat comes from private investor who tried to conduct traditional gold mining in rivers flowed to the Customary Forest (Pangkalan Jambu River, Supenin River, and Ibai River).
Project Development Goal:
Program Planning To guarantee the conservation of Baru Pangkalan Jambu Customary Forest, Pangkalan Jambu Sub-district, Merangin Disrtict, Jambi Province.
Project Development Objectives :
1. Existed organizational system of Customary Forest Management Working Group;
2. Existed subsystem organizational role of the Customary Forest Management Working Group;
3. Existed honey bee cultivation pilot project
Expected Outputs:
1. Existed organizational system of Customary Forest Management Working Group;
2. Existed subsystem organizational role of the Customary Forest Management Working Group;
3. Existed honey bee cultivation pilot project
Activities to be Conducted:
1. Facilitating organizational system of kelompok kerja pengelola hutan;
2. Conducting site visit to similar honey bee cultivation center;
3. Community planning on the development of honey bee cultivation.
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:
1. Direct : 21 members of Customary Forest Management Working Group, Baru Pangkalan Jambu Village;
2. Indirect : Village official of Baru Pangkalan Jambu Village, members of Center of Village Forestry Communication; Community of Baru Pangkalan Jambu Village
