Rehabilitation and Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem in Karang-Gading Estuary/Langkat Timur As Part of Coastal Carbon Corridor
Ecological Threat :
Paluh Kurau Village is one the village in North Sumatera that facing an ecological threat from land conversion to become palm oil plantation by private company. Private company or community from outside Paluh Kurau Village often trade community land to be converted as palm oil plantation. This land conversion eventually brought a serious impact for mangrove ecosytem as it also happened in mangrove area. Such impact can be seen from the decrease of mangrove biodiversity. People of Paluh Kurau village also suffered from the poverty due to the decrease of sea catchings such as fish, shrimp, crab and other cacth.
Project Development Goal:
Program Planning To :
1. Develop sustainable mangrove forest ecosystem management;
2. Establish business community that supports the development of Paluh Kurau area based on economic potentials;
3. Develop mangrove ecosystem management, including the utilization and protection towards mangrove ecosystem to support coastal area rehabilitation.
Expected Outputs:
1. Increased community awareness in conserving mangrove forest;
2. Existed community plan in mangrove rehabilitation activities that will increase the area of mangrove forest;
3. Existed community social-economy empowernment activities through the utilization of biodiversity of mangrove ecosystem as the promising community economy source.
Activities to be Conducted:
1. Community planning in mangrove seedling and planting;
2. Community planning in developing proper community business based on mangrove potentials;
3. Community planning in regular mangrove forest patrol
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:
1. Direct : 80 people of Paluh Kurau Village community consisting of 30 men and 50 men;
2. Indirect : Community of Paluh Kurau Village
