Natural Resource Conservation Program As Pre-Condition for Food Production

Since the late of 20th century, Mollo Indigenous People have fought against the regional investment policy East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, especially in the forestry, mining and water sector. The struggle of Mollo Indigenous People is the struggle for rights over natural resources and the sustainability of the natural service. The function of natural services becomes precondition of production which also symbolized by Woman Body. Natural service is expected to fulfill human needs. Unfortunately, the area (inhabited by 4.957 people and majority are farmers), is facing serious problems related to food production and access to natural resources.


Project Development Goal:
Planning program to conserve natural resources as pre-condition for food production.





Project Development Objective:

1. Increased farmer capacity in managing forest and crop plant to improve production quality based on environmental values;
2. Improved solidarity among farmer groups and developed advocacy strategy regarding community natural resources in Mollo;
3. Researched and developed crop plants that help protecting water resource and food production in order to increase food availability.

Expected Outputs:

1. Existed conservation activities in the organization of food production resilience, that can be utilized by future generations.
2. Improved knowledge of Indigenous People, government, and public regarding social symbols existed in traditional custom in terms of environmental development as the strength of inidgenous people.
3. Conserved local knowledge regarding democracy and the role of natural service.

1. Planning on Natural Resource Conservation Program As Pre-Condition for Food Production;
2. Planning on community training
3. Facilitating village meeting
4. Producing video proposal

Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:
1. Direct : Farmers in 7 (seven) villages located in Fatumnasi Sub-distict, North Mollo Sub-district, and Tobu Sub-district, South Timor Tengah District, East Nusa Tenggara
