Microhydro Project for Remote Community Lived Around Mt. Rian Ecosystem, Tana Tidung District, East Kalimantan
Ecological Threat :

The Mount Rian Area is widely known as water catchment?s area that holds an important role in hydrology system and natural disaster prevention effort. Some Borneo endemic species can be found within the forest area, such as several of birds? species, anteater, skunk, deer, etc that become an indicator of the quality of the forest. However, the area also facing serious threats including from the government who gave plantation right and plantation forest concession in a large scale. In the future, the high level of ecological threat facing by the ecosystem will eventually open the opportunity of natural disaster, such as drought.

Project Development Goal:

The conservation of Mt. Rian Ecosustem through microhydro-powered electricity management, knowledge management, and intitiation of community non-timber forest product business.

Project Development Objective:

1. Incresed the sense of belonging and community knowledge on forest conservation that will contribute positive impact in reducing carbon emission, water catchment protection, and biodiversity conservation;
2. Increased community capacity in techno-social management and utilization of microhydro-powered electricity and it relation with water catchment protection and forest conservation;
3. Developed non-timber forest product based community business including marketing the product;
4. Learning sharing of various informations and knowledge as part of knowledge management process.

Expected Outputs:

1. Established 1 (one) unit of microhydro;
2. Existed a strong commitment within community in water catchment protection and biodiversity conservation;
3. Increased community techno-social capacity in the effort of microhydro management related to forest conservation;
4. Existed organizational mechanism in microhydro management;
