The Nature Conservation Through The Development of Ecotourism
Ecological Threat :

Mount Ungaran area in Central Java holds an important role for the city of Semarang (capital city), Semarang District, and Kendal District. Currently, Mt. Ungaran is facing serious threats toward its ecosystem support. Some threats that can be seen such as :
1. Illegal logging for housing materials;
2. Mining exploitation (extractive type C) such as stone and sand to meet the needs pof housing and settlement infrastructures;
3. Damaged river ecosystem due to destructive fishing method by community using poison and electric tools. And also waste pollution that floating on the river.
4. Economic factor such as increased community demands is considered as the main factor of ecosystem damage in Mt. Ungaran area.

Project Development Goal:

Program Planning To develop conservation-based educational tourism for school children, students, environmental scientists, environmental group and general public in Central Java.

Project Development Objectives :

Existed community planning to support environment conservation that will improve the existence of water resource for community in the area surrounding and water catchment.

Expected Outputs:
1. Existed social report of community and area obseravtion to organize community group, documenting potential area to be developed as eco-tourism object, such as birdwatching, butterfly exploration; existed bird species, biodiversity potentials, village map, etc;
2. Rehabilitated 40 ha of village forest with GG Desa (Bondo Desa) as land status. This land area is located in the slope of Mt. Ungaran and served as water resource for river along Limbangan Village;
3. Existed eco-tourism area masterplan and community conservation action plan.

Activities to be Conducted:
1. Asessment, including social analyis and approach towards community groups both community that involve in conservation activities as well as againsts the conservation plan; documenting potentials area that can be developed as eco-tourim object; identifying and documenting tree species, endemic flora and fauna grows in the village area; mapping of river, identifying and documenting the ecosystem, including endemic species of flora and fauna, land coverage before conservation plan (Aren, Ares, Ringin, Kemadu, Wuni, Salam plant) (animal : Deer, Monkey, Porcupine, Hornbill Bird, Crow, Orioles)
2. Advocacy, including :
a. Conducting lobby to village officials, to compose village rule and budget plan;
b. Information and Education Campaign, including Village Rule campaign and socialization, conservation campaign, socialization of tree felling restriction, river poison, establishing information board, socialization and involvement of students, and socialization regarding conservation and education-based eco-tourism plan.
3. Planning, conducting community meeting in several community groups to develop master plan of eco-tourism area and conservation plan followed with discussion of community action plan.
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:
1. Direct : Community of Kampong Banyuwindu, Limbangan Village;
2. In-Direct : Community of Limbangan Village and other neighboring villages.
