project that aims to intervene in conservation of coastal marine biodiversity in Maxixe district of Inhambane province, an area recognized as highly productive with clear waters, mangrove communities and a flag species of dugong, a marine mammal endangered in the western coast of the Indian Ocean; sharks, rays, turtles, coral reefs and other species occur in the region, but are threatened by increase of human settlements, expansion of Inhambane provincial capital city and pollution in Inhambane bay caused by motorized boats, sedimentation and sewage systems; integrated management of coastal marine resources with community participation will be the approach to be adopted by the project.
