Community Based Initiatives to Reduce the Deforestation Through Energy Efficient Stoves in UC Manjhand District Jamshoro
Project Aims and Objectives
o Training of local inhabitants in manufacturing and installation of fuel efficient stoves in 20 villages of Manjhand Taluka
o Promotion of solar energy in the targeted area
o To make people in 20 village conscious of excessive firewood use and their impact on the land which is degrading due to this human activity, overgrazing and natural processes by establishing 20 CBOs and 20 friends of forest committees.
o Skill enhancement training to 200 women in order to provide them the choices and opportunities for income generation.
Activities to be carried out under project:
? Recruiting Project staff
? Baseline Collection in 20 targeted villages
? Bond building Meetings with the community
? Formation of project volunteer groups
? Training of smokeless stoves to volunteers
? Installation of 1500 smokeless stoves to the targeted communities at targeted villages
? Promoting solar energy in the targeted area by providing and demonstrating 150 solar lanterns.
? Formation of 20 CBOs and 20 friends of forests committees
? Orientation and training of CBOs in Organizational Development, Book Keeping, Forest Management
? Skill enhancement trainings of women for income generation
Expected Output
EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS/RESULTS/OUTPUTS
? The expected achievements are seen in terms of firewood saving which in turn will contribute towards reducing the land degradation process. The output of this activity will be seen in the form of better NRM practices environmental up-gradation
? 1500 smokeless have been installed to the most vulnerable people tend to engage in wood cutting
? Community is fully aware about their ill-doings of miss-using of woods unknowingly damaging environment
? 90% of community is benefiting from the stoves
? 50% reduction in wood consumption for cooking and heating purposes
? Improved health of the women beneficiaries using smoke free stoves
? Community is safeguarding the natural resources
? Community is well aware about their natural resources and are trained in reforestation and actively involved in environmental up gradation
? CBOs are strengthened, registered and activated in the region and are echoing their voice against ill doings of people against deforestation
? Women are skilled in their traditional hand made items and have improved their socio economic condition
? Women have improved their due role and are involved in decision making process
? Women have generated their income support from the skill-based learning
? Provided 150 solar lanterns to the poor beneficiary community members and promote the usage of solar energy in the targeted villages
