Cultivation of honey bees in the Dardhe village, Puke
Cultivation of honey bees in the Dardhe village, Puke
Bee keeping is a profitable and environmentally friendly activity that needs to be supported as one of many small scale economic activities that can bring in alternative income to small rural families. Based on market prices, honey sells for about 10$/ kg and each farmer can get about 15 kilograms of honey from each hive, resulting in at least 150$/hive. The project is supporting 70% of the cost of hive for a maximum of 5 hives per farmer for a total of 10 farmers. We expect to bring in the first year a total of 150 * 5 = 750$ as income per farmer only from honey. Some extra income is expected in the following years either from the natural growing of the colonies or selling of new colonies
