Public Information, Awareness and Education on the POPs Convention and the Integration of Good Environmental Practices in Small Businesses to Safely Manage and Dispose of Sources of POPs, Barbados.
The overall project goal is to increase awareness of POPs and to significantly improve the management and disposal of POPs among businesses and the community in Barbados. The objectives are to: (i) educate and to increase awareness among SME's of the impact of POPs on the environment and on human health; (ii) educate young people and train a maximum of 15 young people in managing the disposal of POPs; and (iii) develop the capacity of a young sole proprietor in managing E-waste in Barbados. The project is the first of its kind in Barbados and will be considered a demonstration project.

Gender Focus
The project was developed and will be manged by two women.
Capacity - Building Component
The project will build the capacity of a young woman sole proprietor who is developing a pioneering industry in POPs collection and management. A business plan will be improved and a strategic plan developed. A mentor at the Caribbean Development Bank will be assisting the sole proprietor.
