Beekeeping project, Ushiri Village, Mkuu Rombo
CONTEXT:

Wapendanao Group is among the 15 beekeepers groups in Rombo Districts which uses traditional bee hives and traditional ways in honey production. Traditional beekeeping has proved to be source of forest fire in many parts of the Mt. Kilimanjaro forest in Rombo district and thus the District council has mobilize beekeepers groups to look for support in training on Modern beekeeping and modern beekeeping equipments. Wapendanao group will be a demonstration group for other beekeepers in Rombo in promoting modern beekeeping. This project will also involve other beekeepers in Ushiri and Shimbi villagers in Rombo.

The Ushiri Group will contribute wood needed in construction of modern beehives which will costs Tsh. 762,500/=.

? To increase community income and self employment

Bee keeping promotes sustainable livelihood as beekeeping practices in linked to biodiversity conservation, agro forest practices, sustainable harvest of forest products and water conservation.
Notable Community Participation
Community participated in tree planting to provide bee forage. Community planted 50,000 tree seedling on areas affected by fire on the forest of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
