Mohlapetsi Community Wetland Management and Agriculture Project
Mohlapetsi Wetland is situated in the Mohlapetsi river, which is a tributary of Olifants river that flows throughout the year. The vegetation provides the soil with good organic matter and also serves as the cleaner of the water from pollution which runs down the stream. The spring in the wetland release the water sustainably when the existence of the vegetation is not severely disturbed by the land users who cultivates. The cultivation practice in the area is not in harmony with ecosystem due to lack of skills about wetland conservation. Poor cultivation practices deplete the good standard of the wetland .They make the soil more vulnerable to erosive agents. The project objective is to ensure that eco-tourism is encouraged through the maintenance of the natural resources available, balancing the bio-diversity in the wetland whereby water remain in abundance for attraction of different species of birds, animals and plants while on the other hand production improved to boost the agricultural economic growth of the community. This is to be achieved through sustainable cultivation methods, reforestation of indigenous plants as well development of access routes.
