Capacity Building of Njila Village Community on improved fireside, bee keeping and tree planting as a source of protecting the lone Indigenous Sacred Forest of Ndu Sub Division
This project seeks to strengthen the indigenous community of Njila and Wowo Villages by providing the requisite skills to enhance biodiversity conservation via improved fire sides, beekeeping and domestication of indigenous /economic trees both on farm and in the degraded sites of the unique forest. This will go a long way to conserve the unique indigenous forest found in this area.
The Women and the youths who are the main users of this forest will be trained on these alternative livelihood practices like the beekeeping (mostly for youth and old or retired men) and women on the improved firesides as well as domestication of economic/indigenous /agroforestry trees both to be on farm practice as well as regeneration of the over exploited or degraded sacred forest.
The aspect of improved fireside will be able to change the people?s mentality or habit from three stones firesides to this more sustainable practice. This will drastically cut on the excessive consumption of fuel wood collected from this forest, control internal or in house pollution thereby improving on the health situation of the users.

Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
Creation of a Natural Resources Management Committee, training and equipment of Community members on beekeeping and processing, improved firesides and pasture improvement technologies. Improved pastures will continuously produce seeds, which will be sold and ploughed back to enhance sustainability of the project. Honey derivatives will equally be a plausible source of income for continuity.
The bottom-up approach has been employed in this project and this to a larger extend makes the beneficiaries have a sense of ownership of the project thus guarantee sustainability.
