Identifying present state and introducing protection measures for the European Hamster (Cricetus Cricetus L.) (Red Book of Belarus), as an indicator species for High Conservation Value Farmlands (HCVF)
Project Goal ? Development and introduction of integrated activities program on protection and conservation European Hamster (Cricetus Cricetus L.) places of inhabitance as an indicator species for High Conservation Value Farmlands in Brest Polesye, as well as additional field, monitoring work, implementation of preservation activities.
Activities:
1. Evaluate historical and present inhabitance area of the European Hamster in the project region.
2. Introduce the search & monitoring methods which will give the comparative analysis of the monitoring results. Finding the factors which influence on number & distribution of this rare species.
3. Identify the main threat factor to the European Hamster & work out the activities program on protection & conserving places of inhabitance of the European Hamster as indicator High Conservation Value Farmlands. Implement this program to some agricultural enterprises in Brest Polesye.
4. Popularization & involving local people into the environmental protection.
Expected results:
The final result of the project field work will be introduced as the new material on Hamster distribution in order to find further ways of protection & conservation of existing places of inhabitance of Hamster in Brest Polesye.
An integrated activities program on Hamster protection & conserving its places of inhabitance will be worked out within the project. This program will be introduced to Brest oblast Environmental Committee for its examination, approval & recommendations for different departments & land-users.
