The Al Istiklal Cooperative was established in 2002 in Mukbileh village in Jarash governorate. The cooperative aims at helping the local community by improving their livelihood, creating job opportunities to decrease unemployment in the area and managing the central commercial market in Mukbileh/Jarash. It also helps in providing awareness to the local community and encourage new projects which will develop sustainable agricultural activities. Mukbileh Village is located in the Jarash Governorate and have a population of 4000. Its highly known for its agriculture and olive production. The area is highly dependent on rain fall, and with decreasing rainfall each season, the agricultural production is decreasing which causes a decrease in the income generated that season.

The cooperative will use the revolving fund approach to manage the water harvesting activities, thereby allowing project activities to continue beyond the funding period of the project.

This project will aim at increasing the awareness of the local community to manage a natural resource (water) by rainwater harvesting practices which will help in preserving the agriculture in the Mukibleh village/ Jarash. Its specific objectives are as follows: - Increasing the local community?s awareness on preserving rainwater and using it. Improving and creating new rain water harvesting systems, which will decrease the use of the household water supply - Improving the living conditions of the local community through supporting small income generating projects through a revolving fund - Enhancing and upgrading the skills of the society technically, finically and managerial
