Conserving Threatened Breed of Ricchi Sheep in Badin
Project objectives:

1. Conservation of Ricchi sheep aiming at alleviating poverty and promoting biodiversity.
2. Promoting the Ricchi sheep in the local market.

Activities to be carried out under project:

1. Establishing a Model Farm of 50 Ricchi Sheep in UC Bhugra Memon.
2. Identifying a group of at least 50 poor families/beneficiaries from union council Bhugra Memon.
3. Conducting meetings with the identified group of communities.
4. Signing of aggrement with the selected beneficiaries that they will not sell out the Richi sheep for 3 years.
5. Supply of the 50 sheep to the selected poor beneficiaries on agreement that at least three years they will not sell out the sheep.
6. Consultative and mobilization meetings with the identified progressive livestock keepers.
7. Organize one trainings for the progressive livestock keepers on the management of Ricchi Sheep.
8. Organize a provincial level conference on Ricchi Sheep jointly with SEWA. (collaborating SEWA is added as per suggestions of the NSC.)
9. Coordination meetings with livestock department Badin, Animal Husbandy Department Badin and local NGOs and CBOs.
10. Mobilizing local community to sustain this breed and increase production
11. Introduce the Ricchi Sheep in major Livestock markets of District Badin to increase rearing
12. Printing informative and communication material
13. Hiring project staff (One project officer, one Farm Attendant, one Female Moblizer, Male Mobilizer, one Office Assistant )
14. Establishing Project Office
15. Purchasing furniture and fixtures
16. Reporting and monitoring
17. Final evaluation of the project

Anticipated output of project:

The project is expected to prevent the extinction of very threatened breed of Richhi sheep with the involvement of local communities and Government Departments by increasing sheep population and production as well as sustaining and improving the local environment. The specific anticipated results are as under:

1. Increased Ricchi sheep rearing tendency in the target area.

2. Communities are mobilized to conserve the threatened species of Richhi sheep.

3. A farm of 50 seeps is established at Union Council Bhugra Memon district Badin.
4. Breeding of sheep is ensured through supply of 50 sheeps to poor selected beneficiaries on three years agreement.
5. Increased income of 50 poor families in the area.
6. Quarterly magazine and other informative material is published
7. Reduced Mortality rate in Richhi sheep
