Conservation of succulents and other woody species through introducing alternative fuel efficiency technology in Aus:
Aus fall within the succulent karoo ecosystem which is the most biodiversity- rich desert on earth and identified as one of the 25 riches most threatened world's reservoirs of plants and animals life. Uncontrolled land uses creates pressure on these vegetation and causing severe damage. Deforestation is rampant as the inhabitants has limited resources of alternative energy and continue to harvest trees unsustainably. This has been contributed by high unemployment in the area making difficult for them to effort even basic commodities let alone buying electricity stoves of solar heating appliances as an alternative energy source.
The project aims to conserve the succulent plants and other woody species in the Succulent Karoo Ecosystem, in order to sustain their role in the community and global significance, and develop fuel efficiency technology to prevent over harvesting and unsustainable use of natural resources such as the Camel thorn trees;
The settlement is situted in the Karas region in the Luderitz constituency, about 220 km west of Keetmanshoop and 120km east of Luderitz. It's area is about 22,000 hectares which borders with freehold farms on eastern and southern side and Namib Naukluft Park in the north-western side.
