Solar dryers and collectors use and distribution in Tolebiysky area, Southern Kazakhstan
Implementation of the project demonstrates the replacement of traditional energy sources with alternative sources. The use of solar energy will contribute to improving the environmental situation in the region and reduce emissions of CO2 leading to global warming
Project aim:
To demonstrate solar energy use in life and agriculture to population of Tolebiysky district for the purpose of decreasing negative influence of the hotbed gases emissions in atmosphere that leads to climate global warming.
Project tasks:
- Installation of solar collectors and showers
- Installation of solar fruits and vegetables dryers and solar kitchens
- Promoting alternative energy sources
Project results:
- Established an autonomous hot water system based on solar collectors in the children's home
- Installed solar drying of fruits and vegetables in children's home
- Set a shower in an orphanage with a water supply from the solar collectors
- Created a demonstration office in Lenger equipped with an autonomous system of hot supply of solar collectors
- Installed solar collectors and showers in the 8 guest houses in the villages Tonkeris, Kaskasu, Dihankol and city Lenger
- Installed solar drying of vegetables and fruits in guest houses
- Vacation homes are provided with solar installations for heating food
- Conducted training of students, Children's Home staff, owners of guest houses and family members.
- Developed and distributed 2,500 information booklets

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
8 rural families, 124 inmates and 90 employees of the orphanage, 31 employee of "Ugam" NGO will benefit from the project. Operating the solar power installation allow substantially reduce the costs of domestic heating, saves the family budget items such as costs for the purchase of coal, wood or natural gas. Villagers have freed more time to care for livestock and poultry, which allows increase the number of animals on the yard, what also contributes to the welfare of the local population. Inmates of children's home will get heating, ht water for personal and domestic targets.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
About 150-200 local residents have gained knowledge on alternative energy on trainings, project area population had possibility to read articles on project activities in local and regional mass media as well as in the Internet, where active PR-activities were put into effect.
