Greening St. George's - Green Space and Open Spaces
Greening St. George's - Green Space and Open Spaces
This project focuses on one significant component of sustainable cities, i.e., greening cities as a means of absorbing CO2 emisisons and creating a more sustainable city culture. The main project objective is to" establish a community of vested interest demonstrating awareness of and interest in the conservation of green places and open spaces within St. George's".

The project objectives are to: (i) promote environmental enhancement within urban-suburban St. George's through reforestation, afforestation and public education on the conservation of green spaces and green buildings; (ii) promotion and implementation of sustainable forms of land management with respect to design and planning for green places and open spaces as an integral dimension of environmental quality; and (iii) promotion and development of public policy measures regarding new and rehabilitated built environments.

Project activities will include stakeholder outreach sessions; public consultations; environmental awareness and education; Eco-friendly competitions; Capacity development; site rehabilitation; and promotion and adoption of green spaces.

This project is in many ways a demonstration project which has great upscaling potential to a medium or Big GEF.
