Capacity Building for Forest Rehabilitation in Urhonigbe Forest Reserve

The project seeks to build the capacity of the Grassroot Consultative Committee for natural resource management particularly to protect and rehabilitate the highly degraded forest resources in Urhonigbe Forest Reserve Forest Reserve, Edo State Nigeria. The project is designed to enhance sound natural resources management and exemplify positive response of local communities to climate change.

Project sustainability

Established Forest Management Committee and Forest Guards, Law enforcement will ensure effective management of the Protected Area. Sustainable collection and management of NTFPs will create opprtunities for livelihood enhancement.

- Tree planted to the degraded areas of the forest reserve;
- 5,000 seedling planted in Urhonigbe Forest Reserve;
- Map of the planted area in the Forest Areas.No more farms within the core zone of the Forest Reserves;
GCC participation in decision making on resource management this would be found in the minute of meetings;
- Forest Guard employed;
- Records of arrest and resistance of illegal activities in the forest reserve,Office set up for GCC executives;
- Resource mobilization and action plan for securing support for conservation Efforts;
