Developing the Traditional Ovens
The project aims to improve the sustainable livelihood of rural families through comprehensive actions and to develop traditional houses and barns, install developed cooking stoves and biogas units, which will have a direct impact on the environment, as well as the climate change issue.
The project will develop 200 ovens, 200 barns and install 16 biogas units, as well as create jobs opportunities for young people to work in the construction or maintenance of those units in the future.
The project aimed to:
- Safety disposal of the organic waste trough the biogas technology
- Reduce harmful emissions by development of the traditional ovens
- Develop 200 Oven / 200 Barns / 10 units Biogas / create jobs opportunity and provide an opportunity for young people to work in construction or maintenance the biogas units.
- organize 12 public meetings
-Work on12 villages
-Targeted beneficiaries, women, family.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
During the project, 37 awareness raising seminars were conducted in 30 poor villages of Sahel Selim, Assuit governorate, attended by 1328 participants (men &women). Issues discussed in those seminars included: climate change problems, benefits of developed ovens, energy efficiency, cheap and clean energy, organic agriculture using organic wastes, focusing on the economic, social, health and environmental benefits resulting from using developed ovens and biogas units.
Gender Focus
One of the main objectives of GEF SGP/ Egypt is to develop, in an integrated way, a gender perspective for the environmental sector, with the goal of improving the quality of life of the population, in particular women and communities, through mitigation and adaptation to the sustainable use of natural resources.
