Epworth Waste Management Programme for the Reduction of POPs
Epworth Waste Management Programme for the Reduction of POPs
The Problem

The project has been conceived with a background of alleviating the health problems of the peri urban dwellers while at the same time addressing their socio- economic requirements. Tackling the poor waste management problem presents such an opportunity as a clean environment. The local authority in Epworth has failed to provide the much needed services for an urban setting and the waste management situation is in a pathetic state and non collection of solid waste is the order of the day. This has resulted in a serious mushrooming of illegal solid waste dumps all over the residential areas. The illegal dumps pose serious health risk to the residents as they are breeding places for rodents, mosquitoes and other disease vectors. The solid waste dumps is that when they are burnt or upon decaying they release POPs.
