The project aims to combat land degradation by getting farmers to plant cashew plants around their farmlands to prevent soil erosion by serving as fire protection and windbreaks. The project would also contribute to poverty reduction among participating farmers.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
By promoting cashew farming, the project aims to demonstrate the benefits of including tree in the farming systems of the area. Since the area is regarded as the most environmentally degraded region of the country, this programme would contribute towards addressing these acute problems.
Policy Impact
It is envisaged that the success of this programme would serve as a stimulus for the Agricultural Department to push for the inclusion of trees in the crop farming system.
