Nature Friendly Linen Conservation via Production in Kure Mountains
Nature Friendly Linen Conservation via Production in Kure Mountains
The project aims to re-introduce local linen production in Bartin Ulus area. Linen production and linen cloth making has been a traditional activity in the area which had been abondoned due to the fact it was very labour intensive and the villages in Turkey are mostly left with only the elderly people who were unable to do the deed. While the difficulty of making the cloth is still existing, with the advancing of technology and the increasing demand for flaxseed from consumers can be used as a mean to conserve the local linen variety in Ulus through the project. The initial aim is to increase the amount of seeds from the local variety by planting them and then try to improve the quality and also establish links between the producers and the marketing structure, be it for linen clothing or as flaxseed.
