Conservation of Heirloom Grains, Seeds and Products in Kars Region by Sustainable Projects - Phase II
The project is a continuation of the SGP supported project. In the first phase, the ancient wheat seeds were cultivated and the project achieved a huge success in spreading the production to the surrounding villages. Both the wheat and its products can be now found in the Kars vicinity. In the second phase of the project, the aim is to spread the reach of the ancient seed to a bigger locality, therefore creating a market and suitable products through the project. The NGO will be working towards purifying the product (the seeds usually have other plants in the batch, not very much appreciated by today's consumer) and to establish a proper packing, branding and marketting chain for the Kavilca.

Gender Focus
Most of the work in agriculture is already done and is best known by the women in the community. The project is trying to both benefit from their extensive knowledge and trying to make their voice and contribution heard. Also, the fiscal benefits gained by the project are directly provided to the people who are doing the jobs, i.e. mostly women.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project has been concentrating on the conservation and use of the traditional seeds in Anatolia, the second phase will focus more clearly on how the conservation will translate in to sustainable livelihoods in a more effective manner.
