Riparian Adoption Program to Conserve the Source of Livelihood for Future Generation
Project Development Goals:
1. Conserving ecological function of Surabaya River riparian area.
2. Increasing the involvement of school and community in river management through riparian adoption programme.
3. Increasing knowledge and skill of school and riparian community in river utilization without disturbing riparian ecological function.
Project Development Objectives:
1. Increasing youth capacity in terms of independent agent of change and assisting school and community in riparian adpotion process.
2. Strengtehing school and community capacity in terms of research regarding biodiversity conservation and river ecological function.
3. Documenting riparian biodiversity and Surabaya River?s water quality
4. Packaging result of capacity strengthening into information and educational media
Expected Outputs:
1. Formed 25 riparian adoption volunteers
2. Expected output with school:
a. Developing natural laboratorium in riparian area
b. Documenting activities chronology and documented in form of information bank regarding riparian function and riparion school network bulletin
c. Brochure contained 5 topics of research result and documentation video (1 documenter video produced by 2 schools) regarding the experince in riparian adoption and management
3. Expected output with community:
a. Developing community garden in adoption area with unique plant
b. Increasing community knowlegde in riparian adoption
c. Documenting monitoring result of community garden to monitor the result of community garden
d. Published series of Surabaya riparian management guidline book with variation of plant. These books will be distributed among other community lived in Surabaya River area.
4. Developed learning class with community in Surabaya riparian area as media of knowledge sharing regarding Surabaya riparian conservation.
Activities to be conducted:
1. Student training as Riparian Adoption Motivator Volunteer
2. School assistance activities :
a. Assisting 2 schools in riparian adoption and utilization as natural laboratory and lesson learned
i. Planting rare plant and bamboo
ii. Planting medicinal herbs
iii. Developing insect garden, fruit garden, and grass and bushes laboratory
iv. Developing pemancingan site as alternative income for community
b. Documenting chronolgy and continuity of activities (challenge/thread, achivement, inovation, or new experience derived from alternative ideas)
c. Conductiong comparative study to organic farming site or to the site with similar activity in Surabaya River riparian Adoption
d. Publishing school experience in riprarian adoption and management
3. Community assistance activities :
a. Planting unique plant in adoption area
b. Managing riparian area, including land utilization, seedling, plant management, pest control, harvest handling, and post-harvesting management.
c. Conductiong comparative study to organic farming site or to the site with similar activity in Surabaya River riparian Adoption
d. Publishing exprience in formed of guildine book in Surabaya River riparian management and plant variation.
4. Developing Riparian Community Learning Class that will be used as waste mangement training, riparian area utilization training through sustainable organic farm, medicinal plant cultivation training, and utilization of Riparian Adoption garden products by school and community.
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:
Direct : 2 student groups, @ 20 people, 2 community groups in 2 villages, @ 20 people
Indirect : Community in riparian area (200 Household)
