Promoting Sustainable Management Practices for improving environment and strengthening Livelihood in the hill villages of District Almora
Objective:
Encouraging Farmers for growing trees in their farms degraded lands, common lands etc. to increase land cover and prevent soil erosion and water resource depletion. Besides increasing tree density would contribute in efforts towards combating global warming due to CO2 emission.
Promoting adequate plantation of fruits and nuts trees which would help in enhancing biomass soil conservation and improving soil fertility besides providing nutritional value to local food and an opportunity for income generation through food processing enterprise.
Encouraging farmers for growing indigenous broad leaved trees which are water retentive and improves soil fertility and prevent soil erosion.
Discouraging farmers for promoting growth of exotic species like pines which damage lands by adversely affecting soil and regimes. Pines require high quantity of water for growth and its soil binding capacity is poor besides it?s leaves damage soil fertility chemically reacting with soil.

Project sustainability
In order to replicate our activities n nearby villages. MH visited the Naini village with agriculture officers and made villagers aware about the several aspects related to agriculture and organic farming. Formation of specified activity groups and initiating and promoting activities with them would help in making the activities sustainable.
