Ricchi Sheep Farming for Sustainable Environment and Livelihoods
The project aims to conserve the threatend breed of Ricchi Sheep in Badin district, which the poorest district of country. It is situated in the southern part of Sindh province. According to the 1998 national consensus, the population of Badin was 1136040; about 85 percent of population is lives in rural areas, with farming as their main occupation.
Project objectives:
1. Awareness and training of farmer community for preservation of the threatened breed of Richhi sheep in Bdain District.
2. Mobilization of communities and facilitating them to conserve the threatened breed, Establishment of Model farm and distribution of Richhi sheep
3. Creating linkages and preparation of video documentary, documenting the lessons learnt on Richhi Sheep

Activities to be carried out under project:

1. To establish a Model Farm of 50 Richhi Sheep for Demonstration purpose

2. To take measures for awareness of farmers and communities about benefits of Richhi
sheep and scientific methods of rearing of breed.
.
3. To improve consultation among farmers, communities and livestock department for promotion of rearing of Richhi sheep

4. To enhance the ability of farmers to raise the breed of Richhi sheep in coastal belt.

5. To improve the income generation of poor families through rearing of Richhi sheep.

6. To improve the breed of Richhi sheep through selection of good animals.

7 .To Identify and train progressive livestock keepers in the area

8. Supply at least 70 sheep annually to the local poor farmer families with two
year?s agreement.

9. To organize a provincial level conference on Richhi sheep

10. To introduce the sheep in major livestock markets of District Badin to increase rearing.

11. Printing a quarterly publication for the purpose of promotion of rearing of Richhi sheep at coastal belt.

12. To develop consultation and linkages with agriculture and livestock institutions in Badin Distict.

13. To prepare a video documentary about benefits and scientific methods of Richhi sheep rearing at coastal belt
