The project will exemplify for local population and local forest authorities how to engage local population in rehabilitation of the deforested areas. The Forestry department agreed to give the land on lease to farmers who would agree to reforest degraded forestry areas. For each hectare taken by a farmer for reforestation, the Forestry authority would give 0,25 ha or irrigated land. Within the project the renters will be taught how to plant and take care of the planted trees. Part of the seedlings are bought by the project, part - by farmers themselves. This approach to reforestation if proven cost-effective can then be presented as an example for Forestry authorities in other districts and provinces.
