Rehabilitaton of Marginal Forest Ecosystems and Addressing Land Degradation
Location of project: An integrated portion of forest ecosystems in the Indo-Chinese sub-region biounit?s Indochina in Petchabun Province, in the vicinity of Nam Nao National Park and Phu Pha Deang Wildlife Sanctuary.
Target Population :364 families with 1,300 members who practice agriculture and depend upon the provisions of forest-agricultural ecosystems. Of these, 274 families are direct participants of the project.
Main Activities:
1. Launching capacity buildings among target population
2. Demonstrating community approaches i.e. reforestation, fire-break zone, study trail and sustainable agriculture
3. Conducting participatory evaluation
4. Disseminating project results
Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increased capacity and insight of 50 farmers witnessed through ability to demonstrate rehabilitation activities covering 80-ha marginal forest
2. Emergence of secondary forest of 3-km long along the creeks with five new species
3. More vegetation in three community forests
4. Emergence of nature study trails and two model plots
5. Increased capacity of at least 20 core leaders and 10 youth leaders witnessed through ability to effectively relate problems & issues, working process and management model of natural resources
6. One local academic institute formulating curriculum on environment and put into practice on continuous basis
All these results will be continuously monitored and compared from project commencement to completion
